Radon Inspections

What is Radon?

Radon is a cancer-causing natural gas that you can’t see, smell, or taste. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. It is the second leading cause of lung cancer in America and claims about 20,000 lives annually.

Did you know that one in every four Michigan homes is expected to have radon levels that exceed the recommended federal action level?

How Does Radon Get Into a Home?

Radon escapes from the ground into the air, where it decays and produces further radioactive particles. As we breathe, these particles are deposited on the cells lining our airways, where they can damage DNA and potentially cause lung cancer. It can be found all over the U.S. getting into any type of building - homes, offices, and schools - and result in a high indoor radon level. So you and your family are most likely to get your greatest exposure at home, where you spend most of your time.

How Do I Know if a House Has High Levels of Radon Gas?

Testing is the only way to know if you and your family are at risk from radon. EPA and the Surgeon General recommend testing all homes below the third floor for radon.

Radon is only able to be tested for with a machine specifically for testing the gas levels. We will schedule a site visit to the home or office building and set the devices in the proper, recommended location. The exposure period will be 48-hours or more to ensure proper compliance and readings. We will pick up the test kits and then provide the client with the results.

JWISM calibrates their testing equipment every year to ensure accurate readings.
